When you think of Helsinki you probably think cold and wet. This is the perception that many travelers have and for many years Helsinki has been avoided as a premium holiday destination for this reason alone.

However, as more and more holiday-makers travel northwards, the perception is changing fast. Helsinki has quickly changed its image into one of greatness.
If you are looking for a holiday destination that offers an incredible night life then you should really think about booking a trip to Helsinki. This Scandinavian city is packed with some of the most interesting nightclubs and bars that offer you more than your average holiday.

If you are planning a trip then you should think about staying for longer than just a few days. Helsinki is not close enough to other major cities to warrant day trips to other areas and you will find more than enough to do for more than a week.

As far as accommodation goes, the city has all the top international hotels from which to choose. However, there are also several other options. These options include self-catering apartments and backpacker lodges. If you are planning on staying for an extended amount of time then you may need to think of your allotted budget. If it is great nightlife that you are after then you may wish to consider renting a holiday apartment with a group of friends. This will allow you to stay for longer, for cheaper.

One great place to visit is the Arctic Ice Bar. This is one of the best novelty bars in Helsinki because you will receive a pair of gloves when you enter. Although the cover charge is EUR 10, you get a free drink and the opportunity to hang out with the locals. The temperature in the bar is below zero so you should dress warmly.

Another interesting place to visit if you want something a bit more familiar but still with a hint of local culture is Molly Malone's Irish Pub. The best part about this bar is the live performances that you will find on a daily basis. The clientele is friendly and the drinks are not too overpriced. You can also order bar snacks from the menu if you do not feel like heading out for dinner. This is probably a good idea if you intend to drink more than a few. Furthermore, if you want to drink then you should look at staying close to where you will be hanging out. The public transport is of a high standard, but it is always good to be able to get home quickly if you feel that your evening should come to an end.

The best time to visit Helsinki is in the summer months. The winters are not mild and if you are not used to extreme cold temperatures then you will not enjoy it. The sooner you book, the better your chances of getting the better accommodation for cheaper.
